PROCERA® TOOTH PREPARATION -
For Procera® restorations, a tooth preparation of
the chamfer type is the optimum choice. The preparation
design is analogous to the architecture of the natural
tooth.
- Chamfer preparation is characterized by thinned
margins and a cutting with rounded inner angles and
edges.
- To attain optimum adaptation, the occlusal surfaces
of posterior teeth should have a relatively flat surface
topography.
- When it comes to preparation depth, the veneering
potential of Procera® AllCeram permits a variation
in preparation depth of between 0.8-1.5 mm.
- For occlusal surfaces in general, and for Procera®
AllTitan in particular, the same reduction is recommended
as for metal ceramics, depending on the clinical situation.

ALLCERAM FAQ
If I prescribe a PROCERA®
restoration, is a special tooth preparation necessary?
A chamfer type of preparation is preferred. It is also
advisable to round off all angles and sharp edges. This
is because the stylus used to map and digitize the dies
cannot 'read' sharp angles; therefore, rounded angles
are preferred.
Am I required to use any special
burrs or instruments?
We advise clinicians to continue to use the diamonds
and carbides they are using now for routine crown preparations.
Procera® has a prep kit available featuring four
different sized diamonds that might be helpful in achieving
the optimum prep for Procera®.
It is very important to remember
that clinicians must use a diamond with generous water
spray should any coping adjustment be necessary. This
includes adjustments made to the occlusal surface of
the finished restoration.
What cement do you recommend for
PROCERA®?
The cement used and recommended by many researchers
and Procera® clinicians is Panavia. Dr. Gerard Chiche,
Chairman of Prosthodontics at LSU, advises the use of
Panavia, Fuji I, or Ketac-Cem. If, on the other hand,
you prefer a resin ionomer, early results indicate 3M's
Vitremer and Fuji Plus also work well. At this time
we suggest not using Advance resin ionomer due to manufacturer's
recommendation.
